Update emerges on Sean Dyche stance on Vitalii Mykolenko at Everton

Sean Dyche did not trust Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko initially and that led to the signing of Ashley Young, according to Paul Brown.

The former Daily Express journalist told Give Me Sport on 3 November that Dyche has made a u-turn on the Ukraine international.

The left-back moved to Goodison Park just days before Rafa Benitez was shown the door at the club.

Brown said, “I think Mykolenko’s had a good little spell. There was clearly a time when the manager didn’t really trust him and didn’t see him as his first choice there. You could tell from the Ashley Young signing that Sean Dyche had concerns about fullbacks, I think on both sides of the pitch really.

“But Mykolenko has taken his chance since Young’s been out and looks revitalised and, hopefully, he can build on this momentum because he’s flattered to deceive a little bit at times at Everton.

“I think he needs a good solid run in the team to prove that he can nail this position down and become a regular starter who is more reliable defensively than anything.

“Sometimes his positioning and decision-making is what let him down, but hopefully, he’s learned from playing under Sean Dyche, perhaps a more solid and less expansive system than he was under the old manager. So, hopefully, it continues.”

Good redemption

For the longest time, it seemed like Mykolenko just did not fit the role at Everton and that the club should’ve explored better options.

He wasn’t the best defensively and even going forward, he was not able to offer much.

However, that was mainly to do with the chaos at the club and a manager unable to establish a proper system for the first-team squad.

Dyche has managed to do that and it’s no surprise that Mykolenko has responded so well and become a crucial first-team player.

Young is nowhere near as good at that role as the Ukrainian and everyone at the club is starting to figure that out.

Hopefully, Mykolenko continues to perform at the level he is and the sky is the limit for him as he’s still in his mid 20s.

In other Everton news, a BBC pundit believes that a first-team player may have upset the rest of the dressing room after what he did and said recently.
