Fabrizio Romano: Everton want to sign Croatian sensation Anton Matkovic, ‘one to watch’
Everton are in the hunt to sign young NK Osijek striker Anton Matkovic, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist reported via his personal X account on Sunday morning (5 November) that interest in the 17-year-old is growing among “important clubs from Europe”.
As well as Everton being interested in the Croatia Under-19s international, Sassuolo and Red Bull Salzburg are keen on the striker.
Romano adds that while no decision has been made on Matkovic’s future just yet, he’s “one to watch for sure”.
One for the future
Right now, this is definitely the way to go for Everton.
Due to financial fair play restrictions and huge debts at Goodison Park, Kevin Thelwell hasn’t been able to spend the money he would have liked to have done on the senior team.
However, signing players at youth level is a lot cheaper and can also bring in massive profits in the future, which will no doubt help the Blues balance the books down the line.
Matkovic is clearly an exciting young talent in Croatia.

He’s yet to play a first-team match for Osijek but he’s been in their matchday squad on a couple of occasions.
Everton’s academy is a very good one and Matkovic, at the age he is, would surely thrive at Finch Farm and one day start to stake a claim for the senior squad at the Toffees.
Let’s see how this pans out though. Romano does suggest that it’s early doors and there’s nothing concrete just yet other than interest from the clubs mentioned.
