Everton want to sign St Patrick’s Athletic teenage defender Sam Curtis, January transfer on cards

Everton are amongst a whole host of clubs who want to sign St Patrick’s Athletic teenage defender Sam Curtis in January, according to TEAMtalk.

The UK online outlet (12 November) reports that the Toffees are joined by Manchester United, Manchester City, Sheffield United, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Tottenham for the 17-year-old’s signature.

The Irish sensation is believed to be on the move in the January transfer window after helping St Pat’s to a third-place finish in the Ireland Premier Division and is also understood to be close to a full international call-up.

Manchester United and Manchester City have already made contact for Curtis who was named as Republic of Ireland Under-18 Player of the Year for 2022 at the FAI International Football Awards.

Tough battle

It’s certainly refreshing to see Everton join the hunt for such a talented teenager and in order for the Toffees to completely enhance their recruitment strategy, Curtis is the kind of wonderkid talent they should be looking for.

Despite his tender age, Curtis has already made 61 senior career appearances and has also scored three goals for St Patrick’s Athletic proving that he already has what it takes to make the grade at senior level.

And at 17 years old is already pushing towards a full international debut with Ireland which certainly says much about the talent he possesses but whether Everton can win the race for his signature is another matter entirely.

It would be an absolute statement if they can pull this off, but with both Manchester clubs already believed to have made contact with the player, it’s unlikely Curtis will even think about joining Everton also with Aston Villa and Tottenham hanging around.

While it may be a tough ask for Everton to secure his signature, that certainly shouldn’t stop them scouring the UK for young talent.

A bright future may well be emerging on the blue half of Merseyside but that can only happen if they’re bringing through academy gems as well as recruiting properly.

In other Everton news, Kieran Maguire has seen 777’s plans for the new stadium and believes there will be far from universal satisfaction among the fanbase.
