Brian Sorensen claims injuries to blame as Everton Women suffer another defeat
Brian Sorensen has lamented the effect of injuries and sickness on his Everton Women’s team after they suffered a third defeat in a row at the hands of Chelsea.
Sorensen was upbeat after the game, claiming he was happy with the bravery his side showed and the chances they created, but said that was the best they could have expected.
This came following a crushing 7-0 defeat to Manchester United in the FA WSL Cup on 9 November, which Sorensen claims was expected as he rotated the side to preserve his team’s fitness.

The boss was speaking to VAVEL following the defeat as he claimed: “Thursday we had to save legs and we just don’t have the squad to compete in two (competitions) at the minute with all the injuries that we have and sickness in the team.
“Thursday was as I expected, a very tough game and we were saving the legs for today.
“I think we put in the best that we can bring at the moment. We should have at least been level with them in the first half if we shouldn’t be leading.
“I watched it back, it is a goal, but I am not blaming the refs because they don’t have any technology to help them, but I am proud of how we came out and how we looked.
“The bravery we have playing, we create chances. We need to convert the chances otherwise it is hard to get results. Second half we just lost the energy a bit and didn’t have the legs.”
Results will come with time
Despite the disappointing look of the final score, Everton can be proud of their performance, especially coming off the back of a huge defeat in midweek which can often cause longer-lasting issues than just the defeat itself.
It was a spirited and determined clash against the reigning champions, which earned a resounding applause from the home support, who recognised the difficult situation.

The result could have been different on another day had Everton converted their chances, but the fact that they created those chances, to begin with, should be taken as a positive in the context of their season so far and should give them belief heading into their next few games.
Everton Women host Bristol City next up in a game that they should be looking to take all three points from. If they manage to win that, the attitudes and moods around the club will receive a big boost which could then see a strong run of form come off the back of it.
