Everton: Paul Brown shares 12-point deduction verdict amid ‘historically bad’ Premier League campaign
This would “not be the worst” season for Everton to pick up a 12-point deduction, according to journalist Paul Brown.
As per the Telegraph (25 October), the Premier League has recommended the Toffees face such a deduction in its case against them for breaching profit and sustainability rules.
The Merseyside outfit currently occupy 14th place in the Premier League table, with 14 points from their 12 matches so far.

“Obviously the 12 points that people fear would be the maximum punishment, nobody can be sure that they would be docked 12 points, it would be entirely up to a commission to decide,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT.
“There’s no precedent for this really so it’s hard to guess what they could end up with. I would say though that if you ever are to get a points deduction this might not be the worst year to incur one because the teams at the bottom are currently putting up numbers that are historically bad in the Premier League.
“I don’t think a team who’s lost as many games as Burnley at this stage of the season have ever managed to stay up in Premier League history, and Sheffield United came very close to having the same record at the weekend.”

Poor standards
It is true that the teams currently below Everton in the Premier League table really are suffering, with recently promoted clubs Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town doing particularly badly.
The trio have picked up just three wins between them from their 12 matches each, in what has been a simply shocking start to their once-exciting Premier League campaigns.
Rock bottom of the pile are Burnley on four points, with Sheffield United in 19th and Luton Town in 18th on five points and six points respectively.
But top flight regulars now Bournemouth are also having problems, as are Fulham and Nottingham Forest. And even though they have climbed the table in recent weeks, Sean Dyche’s Everton will not be feeling too confident about things just yet.
Of those clubs, however, the Toffees are definitely the most in-form, and at the moment look very much like being safe from the dreaded drop this season.
In other Everton news, an Athletic journalist has spotted a “weird” Dyche tactic at Goodison Park that is reminiscent of his spell at Burnley.
