Manchester City state of play emerges as Everton deducted 10 points for financial breaches

There will be increasing pressure on the case against Manchester City after Everton were deducted 10 points for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, according to The Times.

The newspaper reported on Friday (17 November) that the Blues were found guilty of breaking financial guidelines and a 10-point deduction, which will drop them to 19th in the Premier League, was imposed by an independent commission.

It is understood that Everton plan to appeal against the punishment but their appeal must be concluded before the end of the 2023/24 season.

The Times adds that Man City have previously been charged with a whopping 115 breaches of the Premier League’s guidelines and “there will now be increasing pressure to proceed with that case”.

Come down like a tonne of bricks

No one knows just yet what the result of Everton’s appeal will be but hopefully, the club will at least be able to reduce the number of points they are being deducted.

Right now, the Blues are in great form and have pulled themselves well away from the Premier League’s relegation zone.

However, a 10-point deduction puts them level on points with Burnley at the foot of the table and just above the Clarets on goal difference.

The charges against Man City are way more serious.

Not only are there 115 of them but they also won a series of Premier League titles – as well as other major silverware – in that time so what on earth happens to them?

The independent commission has the power to expel clubs from the Premier League if they deem it fit, with that being the most powerful thing they can do.

It seems only right that if Everton can have their Premier League safety seriously threatened for a lesser crime, Man City should have their status taken off them.
