Alan Brazil predicts Premier League ‘chaos’ live on talkSPORT after Everton development

Alan Brazil has predicted “chaos” to take place in the Premier League on the back of the decision to deduct Everton 10 points this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (24 November), the host said it’s “not fair” that the Toffees have been punished while Manchester City and Chelsea are yet to be sanctioned.

Although he believes the Blues will have their points deduction cut to five points on appeal, he added that the situation is going to open a “can of worms” for the Premier League.

“I’ll make it clear, I’m not anti-Man City or Chelsea, it’s just it’s not fair what’s happened to Everton,” said Brazil. “Everton have held their hands up and paid this. I think that will be reduced from 10, I think they might get five back on appeal. Then it’s going to cause chaos towards the end of the season.

“This was all over around £20million they overspent. The Richarlison deal, by all accounts they thought they’d done a deal, but Tottenham and Daniel Levy were very clear and said last minute ‘the player wants to come to us, he’s come to us, we’ll give you £20million less’.

“And they had to take it, they needed the money and they were £20million short. So it’s not as if they’ve broken this rule by spending over £200million, they haven’t. We’ve not heard the last of this, this is going to be a can of worms.”

Long way to go

It feels like there could be a long way to go before a resolution is reached on this issue as there are a number of factors that are still yet to be cleared up.

Everton are appealing the ruling against them and that process could take some time before they learn whether or not the 10-point deduction will be reduced.

The club feel as though they were hard done by and will be hoping that their openness during the recent proceedings will work in their favour.

Everton

It has, however, set a precedence that any other clubs found to be in breach of the Premier League’s spending rules should be treated in a similar manner.

That means Man City and Chelsea could be staring down the barrel of a tough ruling if the league is genuinely serious about cracking down on overspending right across the board.

In other Everton news, a Jack Harrison clause has emerged after a “bizarre” turn of events.
