Sam Matterface moots ‘big trouble’ for Everton as talkSPORT journalist shares info he’s been told
Sam Matterface believes Everton will be in “big trouble” should Leicester City pursue a legal case against the club.
Leicester are one of at least three clubs, along with Leeds United and Burnley, set to sue Everton over financial losses [Daily Mail, 17 November].
Speaking on talkSPORT’s PL All Access Podcast [24 November, 24m 22s], journalist Alex Crook claimed one unnamed club will not pursue action.
“I’ve spoken to one of the clubs who in theory could have sued them and benefited financially, but they’re not going to do that – they don’t feel they have a strong enough case,” he said.
Matterface interjected with: “If there’s one club that does have a case then it’s Leicester City.
“If Leicester decide to pursue a claim then it’s big trouble, because Leicester have a legitimate claim.”
Messy situation
This is a highly complex case and could drag on for many more months before we are any clearer with regards to Everton facing further punishment.
Burnley, for example, would have stayed up in 2021-22 had Everton been hit with the points deduction that season, while the same is true of Leicester last season.
Leeds technically still would have gone down, but they will argue that they are still in line for compensation due to Everton benefiting from breaching the rules.

It is not known who Crook is talking about exactly, but it may well be Southampton. The Saints could technically lodge a legal pursuit as one of the clubs to go down at Everton’s expense, but that would be rather comical.
Southampton were dreadful last season and cannot seriously blame Everton for their struggles.
Those aforementioned teams have now had over a week to work out what to do next. Let’s just hope there is a development soon so that this does not drag on until after the season concludes.
In other Everton news, a report has shared who the most vocal player was in the dressing room following the Toffees’ 10-point deduction.
