‘Incredible’ new footage shared of fan protest against Premier League ahead of Everton v Manchester United clash

Footage has emerged of Everton supporters protesting en masse ahead of Sunday’s (26 November) showdown with Manchester United.

A protest is planned to take place before and during the match at Goodison Park following last week’s shock 10-point deduction.

Everton fans are making their displeasure known towards the Premier League, with many gathering around the stadium well ahead of kick-off.

Liverpool Echo reporter Connor O’Neill shared images of the “incredible scenes” on his personal Twitter page [26 November], while further videos have been circulating elsewhere on social media.

Everton director Kevin Thelwell has opened up on the points deduction, meanwhile, in his programme notes.

“We are shocked by what we believe is a wholly disproportionate and unjust ruling by the Premier League’s commission,” Thelwell said, as per the Liverpool Echo’s live blog [26 November, 15:00].

“We know that every Evertonian is behind us. That is never taken for granted, but always hugely appreciated and valued. We feel the strength of support, and we will continue to use that backing to drive us on.”

This weekend of mass protests started in London on Friday (24 November) when a number of supporters gathered outside the Premier League’s headquarters.

They continued the following day with a banner being flown above the Etihad Stadium for the match between Manchester City and Liverpool, which would have been watched by millions.

While Sky Sports did not show the banner during its live broadcast, footage of it flying high in the sky soon circulated on social media and was watched across the globe, so it was a job well done.

It will culminate in the protest before and during the United match, with every supporter set to wave a placard calling out the Premier League, while also booing the pre-match anthem.

The protests will not stop there, of course, but the message is now loud and clear. The Premier League has messed with the wrong club.

In other Everton news, Paul Merson made a “shocked” admission live on Sky Sports ahead of the meeting with United.
