Bruno Fernandes shares Everton verdict after Premier League punishment

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has spoken out in defence of Everton after the club were given a ten-point deduction, claiming the decision was not fair.

This came following the 3-0 victory for Manchester United at Goodison Park, as the United captain claimed the Toffees’ players are suffering from something that they have nothing to do with.

Everton were handed a ten-point deduction following an investigation into a breach of financial rules, something Fernandes insists was a harsh decision.

The quotes were shared on Twitter following the game by BBC journalist Shamoon Hafez [26 November] as Fernandes told the media: “It [the win] was important for us, we know what Everton have been through.

“For the [Everton] players, it is not fair and it is from long ago and they are suffering from something they have nothing to do with.”

Unexpected support

Fernandes’ words are as unexpected as they are welcome from an Everton point of view. The support from players, particularly from the captain of one of the country’s biggest clubs, will mean a lot to the fans and players in their argument against the punishment.

Whether or not the points deduction had an effect on the mentality of the players at Goodison Park will be seen more in the coming weeks, but as the United skipper claimed, they have certainly suffered as a result.

Despite the disappointing result on the day, the fans certainly made their voices heard in their protest against the Premier League, with thousands of banners and cards displayed throughout the game on top of anti-Premier League chants from the crowd.

The protests will continue until Everton fans feel they have been treated fairly by the Premier League, with plenty of people in and out of the game including Fernandes in support of their cause, feeling the punishment given was a harsh one.
