Everton ace Nathan Patterson sends four-word message to Phil Jagielka after retirement news

Everton defender Nathan Patterson has sent a four-word message to Phil Jagielka after he announced his retirement.

The former Toffees man has decided to hang up his boots at the age of 41 after a 23-year career in professional football.

Jagielka made over 300 appearances for Everton between 2007 and 2019, having also represented Sheffield United, Derby County and Stoke City.

Taking to social media to announce the decision, former England international Jagielka posted on Instagram: “It’s official. 805 and out.”

And among those replying to the post was current Everton defender Patterson, who commented: “All the best mate.”

Everton

Superb career

Jagielka enjoyed a long and successful career, with Everton supporters fully aware of just how important the central defender was for several years.

The centre-back also meant a lot to fans of Sheffield United, Derby and Stoke given his time there, with the defender having started his senior career with the Blades back in 2000.

Current Everton man Patterson clearly looks up to the former Goodison hero, with the Scotland international certainly able to learn a lot from the ex-Toffees captain.

The right-back has largely been overlooked by Everton manager Sean Dyche this season, even with the long-term absence of the injured Seamus Coleman.

Veteran Ashley Young has been entrusted at right-back, but he hasn’t exactly been a solid presence at the back, meaning Patterson may just come back into Dyche’s thoughts sooner rather than later.

The Toffees could definitely have done with a player like Jagielka this season, with the former England international having been a very solid and reliable defender.

In other Everton news, Peter Reid has shared what drove him “mad” about the 10-point deduction handed to the Toffees.
