Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Amadou Onana sit out training ahead of Nottingham Forest v Everton

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Amadou Onana did not take part in Everton training on Thursday (30 November), according to Vinny O’Connor.

The Sky Sports News reporter provided an update live from the Toffees’ Finch Farm base ahead of the trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday (2 December).

While Calvert-Lewin now appears to be doubtful for that match, back-up striker Beto is seemingly available after returning to training.

O’Connor said [30 November, 11:30]: “Amadou Onana is not out there at the moment – he’s inside doing some work, as is Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

“We’re told that’s just a case of maybe a little bit of a precaution. But Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are training away from the group.

“The positive news is Beto. He missed the Manchester United match with a knee injury but is out there training, so if there’s any issues surrounding Calvert-Lewin, Everton have their back-up striker fit and ready to go.”

Big blow

Calvert-Lewin has enjoyed an injury-free run over the past couple of months, but this update from Finch Farm is not good.

The England international may have gone four games without registering a goal, but he has played a big part in the Toffees’ upturn in form – the loss to Manchester United aside.

It may well be that this is just a precaution, but it makes the forward a big doubt for the huge match with Forest given that is just a couple of days away.

Onana’s possible absence is another blow, but Idrissa Gueye has filled in well alongside James Garner, so that is less of a concern for Sean Dyche at this point.

If Calvert-Lewin is not fit, then it may well be that the returning Beto gets the nod up top at the City Ground, where Everton will be targeting all three points.

Let’s just hope DCL is able to prove his fitness, or at the very worst it is only a one-game absence.

In other Everton news, the Toffees may have been given hope in their pursuit of a long-term transfer target.
