Sean Dyche ‘stunned’ by Everton points deduction as further punishment mooted

Sean Dyche has admitted he was “stunned” by the 10-point deduction passed down to Everton, but he is not aware of any further impending punishment.

A report by The Times on Thursday [30 November] suggested the Toffees could yet be deducted more points if they breached profit and sustainability regulations in their latest accounts.

However, the Daily Mail reported later on Thursday [30 November] that Everton do not expect that to be the case.

The report read: “Toffees sources have suggested there is nothing alarming regarding the latest set of accounts.”

Speaking to reporters at his weekly pre-match press conference [30 November], Dyche said: “I certainly haven’t been told any other than what has happened so far.”

Of the recent 10-point deduction decision, Dyche added: “We were stunned. I think football was stunned by the outcome of the 10 points, so who knows what comes next?”

Limbo

The early indications are that Everton have managed to stay within the rules, but we will not know for sure until the accounts are released.

If the club have once again breached rules, it will be a case of supporters strapping themselves in because a punishment will be fast-tracked.

Of more pressing concern is the appeal against the initial punishment, with the club set to make their appeal official on Friday (1 December).

That case will be heard be an independent panel made up of people who were not involved in the original case.

It is fair to say Everton are very much in limbo at this moment in time, as we still have no idea how the table will look once the dust has settled.

For now, it is a 10-point deduction, but that could be reduced or could yet grow further in the worst-case scenario.

If Dyche was “stunned” beforehand, then he’d better brace himself ahead of these latest accounts being made public.
