Neil Moxley questions new legal development at Everton

Neil Moxley has questioned why relegated clubs have dropped legal action against Everton in favour of negotiation in the latest twist at Goodison Park.

Writing in the Sunday People [3 December, pg 50 & 51], quoted Graham Taylor to ask what is actually happening here as the fallout continues from Everton’s point deduction.

With an appeal now lodged, it was reported by the Daily Mail on 1 December that Leeds, Leicester and Burnley are now set to withdraw their plans to sue.

He wrote in his last word: “A string of relegated clubs have dropped their legal action against Everton over their financial breaches in favour of direct negotiation.

“In the famous words of Graham Taylor: What sort of thing is happening here? Why?”

What is happening?

With all legal procedures, it is common for the fans to be left out in the dark with no real details published until an answer appears out of nowhere.

That is what happened with the points deduction, and it is happening again now the appeal is lodged and the details of this potential battle with other clubs.

One positive is that the plan to sue the Toffees appears to be out of the window, meaning any potential settlement would be in their hands as everyone would need to agree.

That only applies if there is any compensation at all though, something which may not happen if the appeal is successful in the coming months.

As with the takeover and waiting for news, it becomes agonising with the future of the club potentially at stake if everything goes wrong, not that it will.

One positive for now is that on the pitch, Everton are in form and would be in the top half if not for the deduction, something that will hopefully lower any threat of relegation.

In other Everton news, a former Goodison Park chief has shared a “very surprised” verdict after the club’s 10-point deduction.
