Paul Brown: Sources speak out as ‘problem’ emerges in 777 Partners Everton takeover

Prospective Everton owners 777 Partners are “unlikely” to pass the Premier League’s fit and proper person test.

That is according to journalist Paul Brown, who has revealed that there is a “problem” regarding the potential takeover.

777 Partners agreed to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s full stake in the Toffees back in September [official Everton website, 15 September].

“I’m hearing that 777 Partners are now unlikely to pass the Premier League’s fit and proper person test,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT (4 December). “They say they’ve submitted all the relevant documents, but my sources tell me that there is a problem.

“You have to remember that there are also multiple very serious lawsuits going through the US courts right now involving this company.

“The question to ask is, does anybody really believe that the Premier League wants to run the risk of passing these guys only for a US court to deliver a verdict against 777 Partners in one of these cases?”

Worrying times

The potential takeover of Everton from 777 Partners, or any individual or group for that matter, was always going to be a tricky one.

It is obviously a lengthy and complicated process, but perhaps the Merseyside club are more difficult to deal with in this regard given their recent financial troubles.

Such troubles saw the Toffees handed a 10-point deduction, with the club recently found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

The players recently showed their ambitions to climb back up the table after their points deduction by beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Saturday (2 December).

But this blow regarding 777 Partners may just shoot their confidence back down again, with a change in ownership really needed at Goodison Park.

Neither Moshiri nor manager Sean Dyche will want any further problems off the pitch, but that seems impossible at the Merseyside club at this moment in time.
