Tottenham ready to push to sign Ben Godfrey as Everton gem Jarrad Branthwaite also on radar
Tottenham are ready to push to sign Ben Godfrey during the January transfer window and have another Everton defender on their radar already, according to 90Min.
The news outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (6 December) that Spurs are eager to add to their defensive options after the lack of depth was recently exposed, with the Everton defender being one name that had been added to their shortlist.
Tottenham scouts have been impressed by the 25-year-old’s displays and think the defender is suited to Ange Postecoglou’s system. Godfrey is desperate to leave the club with a deal likely costing £20 million plus add-ons.

Jarrad Branthwaite is also already on Tottenham’s radar having climbed above Godfrey in the pecking order at Everton, but is viewed as a long-term target for the North London club.
While Everton would likely allow Godfrey to depart in January for the right fee, the Toffees would try to avoid selling Branthwaite in the January window even if a bid were to arrive.
On the radar
It has become apparent over the last few weeks that Godfrey’s future will likely lie away from Goodison Park given the lack of involvement the 25-year-old has had in the Everton first team this season. After 14 games of the campaign, he has only featured in a single minute.
If the Toffees can earn a £20 million fee for somebody who is clearly a long way down their pecking order, it will be a good sale in the January transfer window and it could be put towards signing a new attacking option for the second half of the campaign.

But, Dyche and the Everton supporters won’t be particularly happy about the news that Spurs are monitoring Branthwaite. The defender has been an integral part of the Toffees’ recent good form as he formed a solid partnership alongside James Tarkowski.
Sadly, the nature of having good players is the fact that other teams will want to buy your best players. That hasn’t been a particularly prevalent issue for Everton in the last few years but they will have anticipated interest in the young defender.
He hasn’t long signed a new contract at Goodison Park and the Toffees appear unlikely to sell in January so Everton are in an excellent position to keep him on Merseyside for the remainder of the campaign at least.
