Jordan Pickford accusation made after Anthony Gordon incident in Everton win v Newcastle United
Lucy Ward accused Jordan Pickford of drawing a foul out of Anthony Gordon to get a cheer from Everton fans in their 3-0 win over Newcastle United on Thursday night.
Just before the half-time whistle went, Gordon collided with Pickford after the Blues’ goalkeeper took a little longer than necessary to clear his lines with the ball at his feet.
The ex-Sunderland goalkeeper was never really under threat from Newcastle’s in-form attacker but he played to the occasion to get a free-kick out of him, according to Ward.

Speaking on Amazon Prime’s live coverage on Thursday night (7 December, 08:19pm), the former Leeds Women player said: “I do think that Pickford just waited for that split second longer just to try and take it past [Gordon] for a little bit of a roar from the crowd.”
Newcastle fans then sang about Pickford in a derisory manner due to him being an ex-Sunderland player while Everton fans followed that up by calling him “England’s number one”.
Excellent
Evertonians did enjoy that moment.
But they’ll have no doubt enjoyed it more to see Gordon walking off the pitch with his tail between his legs as the Toffees won 3-0 over Eddie Howe’s side.
Gordon left Goodison Park in controversial circumstances almost one year ago.
He’d given up on his so-called boyhood club and instead chased the millions that were on offer at the state-owned monstrosity in the North East.

Fine, you do that, Anthony. But no amount of millions will stop you from crying yourself to sleep over losing at your old stomping ground with Sunderland’s former goalkeeper making you look like a fool.
Everton deserve this after their 10-point deduction. It’ll make Evertonians sleep a lot easier seeing Sean Dyche’s men picking up the wins and resorting their position outside of the Premier League’s relegation zone.
But what makes things sweeter is that the turncoat Gordon was on the wrong end of a defeat at Goodison.
In other Everton news, Newcastle are now “likely” to pay the Toffees £5million.
