Sky Sports pundit loses his mind over ‘absolutely sensational’ Dwight McNeil in Everton v Newcastle United
Darren Ambrose has absolutely lost his mind over an “absolutely sensational” strike from Dwight McNeil to give Everton the lead during their clash with Newcastle United.
Sean Dyche’s side ran out 3-0 winners over Eddie Howe’s side at Goodison Park on Thursday 7 November and even managed to climb out of the relegation zone, thanks to second-half strikes from McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Beto.
McNeil was able to profit from a mistake by Kieran Trippier before smashing a left-footed effort past Martin Dubravka in the Newcastle net and his opening strike left Sky Sports pundit Ambrose completely stunned.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (7 December) he said: “What a goal that is! Trippier lost the ball, Dwight McNeil has stolen it off him, put it onto his favoured left foot, and struck a wonderful strike into the far top corner.
“No chance for Dubravka, absolutely sensational strike. He’s been their best player, Trippier has got his head in his shirt because he knows he’s made a huge error there. It’s an unstoppable strike into the far corner and a mistake from Trippier but you can’t take anything away from that goal.”
Some strike
It’s safe to say McNeil’s season is properly up and running and his newfound form could not have come at a better time for Everton in their fight against relegation as he has produced two exceptional goals against Nottingham Forest and now Newcastle.
While there was a big slice of fortune in the build-up to the winger’s goal on Thursday night, he took the opportunity excellently and left Dubravka with little to no chance of stopping his strike as he thundered it past the Newcastle keeper.

If Everton want to stay up this year, they’re going to need goals from all over the field, rather than just relying on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and McNeil’s recent form will give Dyche and the Toffees supporters confidence that they have enough quality in their team to avoid the drop.
It would have been unthinkable last season that Everton would have been able to score three goals without Calvert-Lewin finding the net once, but for whatever reason, all of the Toffees have started firing. Long may it continue.
