Everton want to keep Ben Godfrey amid Tottenham transfer interest
Everton want to keep hold of Ben Godfrey in the January transfer window despite Tottenham stepping up their interest, according to Fichajes.net.
Writing on their website (7 December), the news outlet report that Spurs are seriously considering moving for the 25-year-old defender to bolster their options in the upcoming winter window.
But while Godfrey has barely featured under Sean Dyche this season, the Toffees want to keep him as they face a battle against relegation following their 10-point deduction by the Premier League.

However with the player open to leaving and the club battling the drop, a move to a team competing for European football would be attractive and should they firm up their interest “Godfrey’s departure would practically become a fact”.
Interesting
There is clearly a lot of interest in Godfrey right now because of his age, talent and the fact he isn’t playing at all for Dyche right now.
But we have to think of ourselves first and right now we’re not exactly brimming with options at the back. Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski are rightly the first-choice pairing, but their only cover is a past-it Michael Keane and Godfrey.
Should one of them suffer an injury or get suspended then we would find ourselves very light on options, and letting Godfrey go certainly wouldn’t make sense in that scenario.
However if there is an opportunity to use the money we bring in for him wisely to find a replacement and still have some cash left over then it would be a shrewd option, especially since Dyche clearly isn’t the biggest fan.
It’s one to keep an eye on heading into January, but it’s definitely interesting that Everton would rather keep him than cash in despite their off-field troubles.
