Paul Merson predicts result of Everton Premier League clash v Chelsea

Paul Maerson has predicted the result of the Premier League clash between Everton and Chelsea at Goodison Park this weekend.

The Toffees claimed a hugely impressive 3-0 win over Newcastle on Thursday night, while Chelsea were beaten by Manchester United meaning Everton would be a point above Chelsea if not for the 10-point deduction.

And making his predictions for the weekend to Sportskeeda (8 December), Merson admitted he would be “shocked” if Sean Dyche’s side didn’t get a “comfortable win” on Sunday afternoon.

Everton

“Everton are a much better team away from home, but I think they will beat Chelsea this time around,” he said.

“Mauricio Pochettino’s side are missing something, I can’t quite put my finger at it. They did well against Man City but were absolutely blown away by Newcastle, particularly in the second half.

“Manchester United also got the better of them, so it’s not been an easy few weeks for Chelsea. I’ve never seen a team with such high-quality players give the ball away as much as Chelsea did against Manchester United, so things aren’t going well for them at the moment.

“I’d be shocked if Chelsea won this game. Everton are creating enough chances, but they haven’t put many of them away. However, I think they’ll do enough to secure a comfortable win this weekend. Everton 3-1 Chelsea.”

Confidence

Confidence undoubtedly breeds success and the form of the team right now is the best it’s been in several years, with Sean Dyche really getting a song and dance out of the squad.

The fitness issues have eased up in recent times but even though key players like Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have missed games, the performances haven’t dropped.

Everton

Like many predicted, the points deduction has galvanised the club and brought unity between the fans and the players on the pitch and it shows just how important that is to being successful on the pitch.

Chelsea have got quality football players undoubtedly, but there are big gaps between the fans and the team right now and that is why they are struggling so much.

It’s been a while since we were favourites to win any game but we should be heading into this one, and the fans will be ready to roar us on to another three points.
