I’m a Celebrity: Journalist moots ‘kick in the teeth’ for Everton superfan Tony Bellew after jungle incident
Journalist Ian Croll has joked it may have been a “kick in the teeth” for Tony Bellew after being informed of Everton being out of the Premier League relegation zone.
Bellew’s wife Rachael informed the celebrity Toffees supporter of his club’s 3-0 win over Newcastle United in an appearance on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Our Of Here on Friday (8 December).
The retired boxer flew out to Australia for the TV show around the same time as Everton’s 10-point deduction, meaning he would have been surprised by their current standing had he not been aware of the punishment.
In a post on his personal Twitter page on Saturday (9 December), the Liverpool Echo’s Croll said: “Haven’t watched any of this show but was Bellew aware of Everton’s points deduction before he went in the jungle?
“Can you imagine if he wasn’t? His wife’s reference to Everton being out of the relegation zone after the team’s run of form would be a serious kick in the teeth.”
Back-to-back wins
Bellew went into the celebrity jungle on 22 November, five days after Everton were deducted 10 points, so you would imagine he would have been fully aware of their predicament.
The speed in which the Toffees have made up the gap on the sides above them would still have been surprising, though, as the Toffees have won back-to-back games to move out of the drop zone.

With one more game to play before the ITV show concludes – at home to Chelsea on Sunday (10 December) – it may well be that Everton move even further from the bottom three before Bellew returns to normality.
The 41-year-old is a respected figure around Goodison Park and will no doubt be in attendance once he is back in Britain, potentially for the EFL Cup quarter-final tie with Fulham on 19 December.
If Sean Dyche’s men make it three wins in a row when taking on Chelsea, maybe it is a good omen that Bellew stays away for a while longer.
In other Everton news, a journalist made a “robbery” joke at the expense of one of the Toffees’ Premier League relegation rivals after something that happened this week.
