Clinton Morrison slams Michael Oliver live on Sky Sports News after what he saw in Everton v Chelsea
Clinton Morrison slammed referee Michael Oliver for booking Chelsea winger Cole Palmer against Everton in Sunday’s (10 December) Premier League clash.
Palmer was cautioned in the first half at Goodison Park for diving, with Oliver taking a dim view of his efforts to try and get a penalty for the visitors.
But Morrison, speaking live on Sky Sports News, thinks Oliver got the decision completely wrong and Palmer was unfortunate to be booked.
“It’s poor from Mike Oliver, Cole Palmer’s gone down and gets up straight away, he’s booked him for it but no way,” he said.
“He puts his leg into him but he gets up straight away, he doesn’t go to the referee and try and get a penalty. so for me Michael Oliver gets that horribly wrong.
“He didn’t dive, he tried to put his foot into him but he didn’t stay down appealing to the ref, if he stayed down I kind of get it. He got up straight away and went to try and get the ball, so for me I think he gets that wrong and Michael Oliver is one of the best around.”

Sorry Clinton, you are excellent value as a pundit but you are wrong on this one I’m afraid.
Okay, yes, granted some dives are absolutely worse than others and Palmer might count himself a little bit unlucky.
But this habit of players trying to buy penalties by putting their foot into the defender needs to stop, he was absolutely trying to buy a cheap foul and he got caught out and was rightly booked.
Everton have had more than their share of poor decisions given against them this season so it was a bit of relief when the referee blew his whistle that he did not point to the spot because it was a heart-in-mouth moment for sure.
Palmer may have got straight back up but he absolutely knew what he was doing, it was a yellow card all day long, nothing to see here folks, not a talking point let’s move on.
