Sean Dyche hits out at reporter after Everton win v Chelsea
Sean Dyche hit out at a reporter following a 2-0 victory over Chelsea as he was reminded of where Everton could be without a 10-point deduction, according to the Daily Mail (11 December).
Goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin saw the Toffees claim their third consecutive win as they continue an unbeaten December month, moving four points clear of the relegation zone.
However, there was a slightly sour note to the post-match press conference as Dyche was reminded of how the 10-point deduction is currently affecting Everton with a ‘what if’ scenario.

“Dyche, with a grin, lambasted a reporter for reminding him his side would be four points clear of Chelsea without their deduction – and four off the Europa League spots,” Lewis Steele wrote in The Verdict [Daily Mail, pg 4].
“But with him in charge and a move to Bramley-Moore Dock not far away, the only way is up.”
Never a right time
There is never a “right time” for any club to suffer a setback like a 10-point deduction. The punishment saw the Toffees slump into the relegation zone, but Dyche and the team have managed to claw their way back out, four points clear of 18th-place Luton Town.
Turmoil at the club has admittedly brought the community closer together, and results like a 2-0 win over Chelsea are even more helpful when making Goodison believe that the great escape is possible.

Everton have lost just once in their last seven matches, losing 3-0 to Manchester United, which was the most recent game after being charged with a profit and sustainability breach.
And their latest two victories over the Blues and Newcastle United are more evidence of how successful this side can be. But to remind the manager of what could have been if there was no point deduction seems counterproductive.
Enjoy the win. Take joy in the winning streak. Be excited that Everton are already out of the relegation zone with much of the season left to play. It could still be a successful season on Merseyside so focusing on ‘what ifs’ does nothing but bring the club back down to Earth.
