Sean Dyche shares honest ‘nonsense’ reaction to Sky Sports after Lewis Dobbin moment in Everton v Chelsea
Sean Dyche could not hide his delight at Lewis Dobbin bagging his first Premier League goal for Everton as they beat Chelsea 2-0 on Sunday (10 December) but something that happened after impressed him more.
Young forward Dobbin, 20, put the finishing touch on an excellent Toffees display at Goodison Park after Abdoulaye Doucoure had put Everton ahead.
Dyche, speaking to Sky Sports after the game, was delighted to see Dobbin celebrate with “authenticity” and avoid a “nonsense” routine after scoring.
“Absolutely delighted, it’s a strange sort of game for him as a young player, and for him to score his goal, the authenticity and reaction to score a goal was so pleasing,” he said.
“No silly dances and all the nonsense that everyone gets up to in my opinion now. A group of people working very hard for a result, he runs over to the corner, you watch the team everyone runs over in a very authentic manner just to enjoy the moment and I’m absolutely delighted for everyone in the team to get involved in that.”

Textbook Dyche
Has there ever been a more Sean Dyche comment than this? In fairness, it was said with a rueful smile, and it is hard not to watch this opinion without a little chuckle of my own – it’s so wonderfully old school.
The key takeaway really is nothing to do with his views on modern-day celebrations, realistically what’s wrong with a little dance routine if you want to celebrate in that manner?
No, the important thing is how much he valued seeing a young Everton player enjoying a moment he will remember for the rest of his life after a brilliant performance from the Toffees to further improve the feelgood factor over the past week or so.
It is a result that leaves Everton four points adrift of the drop zone despite having a controversial 10-point deduction imposed on them. It has been a truly awesome effort from everyone involved…so good that maybe it should be celebrated with a silly dance in fact.
In other Everton news, Gareth Southgate can surely not ignore Jarrad Branthwaite after his performance versus Chelsea.
