Arnaut Danjuma unlikely to have future at Everton, Goodison Park permanent deal nonsensical – Paul Brown

Paul Brown believes Arnaut Danjuma is unlikely to have a future at Everton as he hasn’t done enough since joining the club on loan.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Tuesday (12 December), the former Daily Star journalist said a permanent deal for the Dutch international doesn’t make much sense because the Toffees will have to be “smart” about the signings they make due to their financial situation.

He added that the 26-year-old winger is “up against it” to try and earn a place in the Blues’ starting lineup, with young players like Lewis Dobbin putting him under pressure to perform.

“Danjuma is not doing enough for me to warrant the club taking him on a long-term basis,” said Brown. “I don’t think he’s got a future at Everton unless he gets his finger out and starts contributing in a much, much bigger way.

“The club doesn’t have a lot of money, and it will have to be very smart about the signings that it makes. Danjuma doesn’t really make a lot of sense really for Everton right now. He’s got time to change that, but I think they do have kids like Dobbin who are going to put pressure on his place.

“You’d expect Dobbin to get much better as he gains some experience and game time. So I don’t think there’s a massive need to keep Danjuma around forever. I think he’s he’s up against it really and probably knows that.”

Got to do more

It has so far been an incredibly disappointing first few months for Danjuma at Everton after a lot was expected of him at Goodison Park.

The winger looked bright in his first few matches, but he has failed to score since the Toffees’ 2-2 draw against Sheffield United on 2 September.

The Dutchman hasn’t started in the Premier League since the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on 17 September, while he’s only made two appearances off the bench in the past nine matches.

His lack of minutes has coincided with the Blues’ massive upturn in fortunes on the pitch, suggesting that they are a better side without him.

That is why if he doesn’t do much more over the next few months, it seems incredibly unlikely that Sean Dyche will look to make his deal a permanent one on Merseyside.
