Henry Winter reacts to ‘superb’ Everton stadium news Friday with ‘worth a fortune’ verdict
The “superb-looking” new Everton stadium is “worth the wait” as the club have confirmed they will move in at the start of the 2025/26 season, according to Henry Winter.
The Times journalist reacted via Twitter to the news from Colin Chong on 15 December that the senior men’s team will start playing competitive fixtures at the dock-side development at the start of the season after next.
Winter is full of praise for the new ground and pointed to the pub over the road which is essentially now sitting on a goldmine.
Winter wrote: “Worth the wait. Superb-looking stadium with the right rake for fans in a magnificent location. And a pub over the road which must be worth a fortune.”
Goodison send off
The question of whether Everton would move midseason next term or the following summer has been kicked backwards and forwards for months, and Chong has thankfully confirmed the decision to choose the latter is not related to any delays in construction.
With relegation a genuine concern over the previous two campaigns it felt like a real risk of finally playing at the 52,888-capacity stadium as a second-tier side.
Sean Dyche’s work on Merseyside has that looking a lot less likely these days, although the spectre of a further points deduction, either for a second profit and sustainability breach or administration continues to lurk in the background.

Assuming there are no major negative developments off the pitch that turn the situation on its head there feels like a chance for Everton to soon be a force again on the pitch under Dyche in grand new surroundings.
If the hierarchy have determined that financially they can afford to hold off the move down to the water that should be a positive in theory, and either way should allow for the club to properly give their historic current home the right send off.
The takeover situation remains the great moveable feast for Everton currently, but with the players transformed on the pitch and the dream becoming a reality with the stadium there are finally some key positives emerging very prominently for the Toffees.
In other Everton news, a Toffees loan is set to be terminated as a Premier League alternative is now being lined up.
