Ian Wright left in stitches by incident involving Everton loanee Neal Maupay v Aston Villa
Ian Wright has been left in stitches by an incident involving Everton loanee Neal Maupay and Emi Martinez during Brentford’s clash with Aston Villa.
Thomas Frank’s side were beaten 2-1 by Unai Emery’s men on Sunday 17 December, but much of the drama in the game unfolded in the closing exchanges as tensions between the two sides bubbled over before Ollie Watkins’ late winner.
One particular individual battle was fought between Maupay and Martinez with both players repeatedly throwing themselves to the ground as they challenged one another in a contest that left Wright in stitches live on air.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2 (17 December) he said: “Firstly, why’s he run into him like that? Look at Emi man, this is where it all started, but now look at that. You know what’s really funny? He stays on the ground all the time, then he tries to pick him up like a little rag doll.
“He’s got the shirt still over his face. It does look terrible, it does look bad, but can I just honestly say, it was just quite good fun to watch that, nobody got hurt.”
What was he doing?
It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to see Maupay getting involved in ridiculous off-the-field incidents for absolutely no reason as Everton supporters became used to seeing such moments from the forward during his time at Goodison Park.
The little exchange between Martinez and Maupay at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday was nothing short of ridiculous as both players repeatedly fell to the floor like “rag dolls” despite minimal contact in any challenges.

Considering the fact the Toffees have started scoring goals for fun in recent weeks, with the likes of Amadou Onana and Michael Keane even popping up with strikes against Burnley, Everton may well have done well to rid themselves of Maupay’s services this season.
The Frenchman failed to find the net regularly during his time on Merseyside and he hasn’t exactly pulled up trees during his time with Brentford this season. Hopefully, Frank’s side opt to make the deal permanent and Everton supporters won’t have to worry about seeing these embarrassing antics from their side again.
