Arnaut Danjuma Everton exit surely on the cards in January after Sean Dyche comments

With the January transfer window on the horizon, there will be a need for Everton to box clever once again in the market.

Sean Dyche has the nucleus of a really good team now, but undoubtedly there is a need to flesh out the squad just a little bit with the current injuries at Goodison Park highlighting that need.

There is one player, though, who it is looking increasingly likely will not be here beyond January and that is winger Arnaut Danjuma.

After all the kerfuffle surrounding Danjuma last January, where he was set to join on loan but snubbed the opportunity to sign for Tottenham in a temporary move, he finally became an Everton player when he agreed a season-long move from La Liga outfit Villarreal.

He has cut a frustrated figure at Goodison, though, finding himself largely consigned to the bench and making only three Premier League starts, scoring only once in the league.

Danjuma did come off the bench in the midweek penalty shoot-out defeat to Fulham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals but reports from Spanish outlet Cadena Ser on Wednesday (20 December) suggested Villarreal are considering a recall to Yeremi Pino injured and Ben Brereton Diaz potentially on his way out.

Dyche was asked about Danjuma when addressing the media ahead of Saturday’s (23 December) contest with Tottenham and did not offer many assurances to the 26-year-old.

“He continues to train well and be part of the group. He came on the other night and I thought he delivered. He’s got to wait his turn,” Dyche said in quotes reported by the Liverpool Echo (21 December).

“Dwight (McNeil) and Jack (Harrison) have been very good, the balance of the side looks right. You have to keep working hard and wait for your opportunities to come.”

Dyche is known as a manager who likes to stick with a settled XI and with McNeil and Harrison performing so well at this moment in time it is difficult to see him breaking into the manager’s thinking.

The best solution might be for Danjuma to head back to his parent club, where there might be an opportunity to get some game time now, and for Everton to redirect the funds elsewhere.

In other Everton news, three players have been ruled out against Spurs this weekend.
