Chris Sutton predicts result of Everton clash v Tottenham for BBC Sport amid ‘Incredible’ Sean Dyche verdict

Chris Sutton has shared his predictions as Everton travel to the Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon (23 December).

On the hunt for a fifth successive Premier League victory, Everton travel to North London to meet Ange Postecoglou’s resurgent team flying high after a recent dip in form.

Sean Dyche’s men enter the clash off the back of a disappointing EFL Cup quarter-final penalty shoot-out exit to Fulham (19 December), and Sutton sharing his predictions for BBC Sport (20 December) predicts Tottenham to be too strong for the Merseysiders but praises the “incredible” work Dyche is currently undergoing at Goodison Park.

Everton

Sutton wrote: “This should be an excellent game, and it is very difficult to call.

“Sean Dyche has done an incredible job at Everton, and if you were to pick a manager of the season based on what we’ve seen so far, he has to be in the mix after what he has had to put up with.

“This isn’t the Dyche who we saw at Burnley, when he was trying to keep them in the Premier League and was quite direct at times. I actually think his Everton team have a nice balance in the way they get the ball and try to play.

“Then you have got Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, who have been the most watchable team in the top flight.

“Spurs can be reckless at times and will be without Yves Bissouma here after his red card against Forest.

“So, it won’t be straightforward, and I do think Everton will score… but I am going to go with Ange to win it.”

Dangerous game

Everton are certainly riding high in the Premier League after four straight wins and clean sheets to boot but will be massively disappointed at the way they crashed out of the EFL Cup quarter-finals to Fulham.

The game was there to be won for the Blues who largely dominated the game but failed to show the clinical edge they’ve reached in the Premier League which ultimately led to their penalty downfall.

Dyche and his team will certainly want to correct that going into Saturday’s game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium however, they’ll be meeting another team in fine form too.

Postecoglou’s Tottenham are a difficult component to deal with given the tremendous flexibility and fluidity the squad exerts in and out of possession which means Dyche is in for arguably his toughest test in recent weeks.

Yes, Everton will want to correct the wrongs from midweek but must approach this game with meticulousness and huge attention to detail because it could end up being a pretty dangerous one for them after their midweek disappointment.

Got to pick themselves up again quickly.
