Sean Dyche shares new Everton finance admission ahead of January transfer window

Sean Dyche has admitted that he and Everton “don’t know” what sort of finances they’ll have to work with during the January transfer window this season.

The Toffees have managed to move away from the Premier League relegation zone with four consecutive league wins, but have suffered several key injuries in recent weeks which has exposed the lack of depth in their squad.

While the January transfer window represents a good opportunity for Dyche to strengthen his side, the Everton boss has admitted that he is still unaware of the budget he’ll have to work with as the Toffees await the outcome of 777 Partners’ takeover.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (21 December) he said: “We don’t know. We’ll be sitting tight, squad-wise when everyone’s fit we’ve got a good, balanced squad. The depth of it is in question because of injuries and game schedule.

“It’s a thick set of games over December, the turnaround has affected us. Regarding the finance, we’ll have to see.”

Wait and see

It is quite clear that Dyche like most of the Everton fanbase, is waiting for an update on 777 Partner’s takeover of the Toffees so that he knows what sort of budget, if any, he’ll be working with when the January transfer window rolls around.

Under Farhad Moshiri’s ownership, the Toffees have been unable to spend heavily in the transfer market as they try to navigate the financial fair play restrictions of the Premier League and if he remains in post at Goodison Park, that is unlikely to change in January.

When everybody is fit and available, Dyche has an incredibly well-balanced squad at his disposal with reasonable depth all over the pitch. But it will only take a couple of injuries over the festive period to see the weaknesses of the side brought to the forefront.

It’s slightly worrying that only a matter of days away from the window opening, Dyche still appears to be unaware of what sort of money he will be able to spend. Hopefully, the situation becomes clearer sooner rather than later and plans can be put in place.
