The Esk calls on Premier League to end Everton takeover ‘farce’ after new 777 Partners reveal

The Esk has called for the Premier League to end 777 Partners’ proposed takeover of Everton after it was revealed Standard Liege had been placed under a transfer ban.

The Belgian club owned by the Miami-based investment firm have been handed a transfer ban after they were found guilty of failing to settle a number of the club’s debts, including unpaid transfer fees as well as not meeting their salary obligations.

This is the second time this season a club under 777’s ownership have been punished, as Vasco de Gama received a similar ban and the Toffees financial expert believes this is enough for the Premier League to end this “farce” of a takeover.

Writing on Twitter on Thursday (21 December) they said: “We are supposed to believe 777 partners who cannot seemingly meet normal operating costs of Standard Liege and Vasco de Gama can afford the £100s of millions required to buy & refinance Everton.

“Time for Moshiri to face reality. Time for the Premier League to call an end to this farce.”

End this farce

The Esk’s verdict that this takeover has become nothing more than a farce is completely reasonable given the consistent stream of negative news that has followed 777 Partners since it was announced that they’d agreed to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake.

777 have been unable to run the likes of Standard and Vasco well across their tenures in charge of both clubs so it seems ridiculous to suggest that they would be fit and proper custodians of Everton in the future.

The Premier League is one of the world’s most expensive sporting leagues and it seems clear 777 don’t have the resources to be successful in it.

Moshiri wants rid of the Toffees and therefore he is willing to sell to anybody that is willing to pay the fee, no matter whether or not they are appropriate owners. But the Premier League ultimately have the final say and it all hinges on their decision.

Hopefully, the news about Standard Liege is enough evidence for all parties to put an end to this “farce” so that Everton can find a new owner who is actually able to financially support the Toffees for many years to come.
