Che Adams tipped to snub Burnley, Everton move would be ‘different ball game’

Carlton Palmer believes a move to Everton would be more appealing for Che Adams amid interest from Burnley in signing him.

Speaking to Football League World on Friday (22 December), the pundit said the 27-year-old is “likely to move on” from Southampton in January as his contract runs out at the end of the season.

He added that a move to the Clarets is unlikely to appeal to the Scotland international due to their position in the Premier League, with a switch to the Toffees a “different ball game” for the forward.

“Burnley and Vincent Kompany are looking to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window in the attacking department and one player they are keen on is Southampton’s centre-forward Che Adams,” said Palmer.

“Che is entering the final six months of his contract, so he’s likely to move on. There were talks that he would have moved on in the summer with Everton heavily linked with the player, but a move never materialised.

“Che would be on clubs in the bottom half of the Premier League’s radar given his proven ability at Premier League level. The problem is Southampton have offered him a new three-year contract, and they’re pushing for promotion in the Championship, whereas Burnley are second from bottom in the Premier League, currently six points adrift from safety.

“Che will not want to experience another relegation, a good move for Burnley, but I don’t think the move would appeal to the player. On the other hand, Everton might be a different ball game if they come back and make an offer for the player.”

Not worth it

It’s no secret that Everton were keen to sign Adams during the summer transfer window after seeing a couple of bids knocked back by Southampton for the forward.

The situation has changed since then, however, after the Toffees secured the £25million signing of Beto from Udinese towards the end of August.

While the Portuguese forward had a difficult start to life at Goodison Park, he’s scored twice in his last four outings to provide him with a bit more confidence.

The situation for Adams has been quite the opposite as he’s only scored one Championship goal since scoring in the first three games of the campaign.

That means it’s unlikely Sean Dyche is going to be tempted to go back in for the Scotsman as he’s shown very little this season to suggest that he could strengthen his forward options.
