The Esk disagrees with Alan Myers verdict, says who must be part of Everton takeover process

The Esk said they “could not disagree more” with Alan Myers’ assessment of the takeover process at Everton.

On 21 December, Sky Sports journalist took to X to write: “I want the right owners like every other Evertonian, what I have said all along is that whilst all reporting and scrutiny is welcomed, we can’t have fans, journalists or anyone else picking our next owner, it can only be done through the proper regulatory process, we need calm.”

Since then it was revealed that the proposed takeover of the club by Miami-based firm 777 Partners has received the green light from the Financial Conduct Authority (David Ornstein, 22 December), although Premier League approval is still required in a significant hurdle to a process that has been fraught with controversy.

Everton financial expert the Esk has been vocal in his opposition to 777 and he said Myers is wrong to suggest that fans should not part of the process.

Writing on X (23 December), he commented: “Unfortunately I could not disagree more than with this comment @ALANMYERSMEDIA. Given the lack of judgement by our current owner & the lack of trust in @premierleague as regulators let alone custodians of our game & club, fans must be part of the decision making process.”

Fans must have a voice

Myers is completely wrong on this one. There is no greater asset to a football that its fanbase and they absolutely should be allowed a voice and a say in who oversees the running of their club. After all, owners will come and go but the supporters will always be there.

So the Esk is absolutely spot on to speak up and call Myers out for his view on this one. Of course there has to be a proper and thorough process, but the fans have every right to be involved with that process, in fact they have to be involved.

The 777 takeover still has significant hurdles to clear despite the news that broke on Friday night about receiving FCA approval and the questions being asked about the deal must be answered comprehensively for this takeover to happen.

Everyone involved in this wants a quick resolution of course, but it must be the right resolution. Everton have been through too much turmoil in the past few years, they need to be allowed to put the focus back on the pitch.

In other Everton news, a journalist has issued a £5m Toffees debt claim amid the recent 777 Partners development.
