Don Hutchison rages at controversial penalty decision in Everton loss v Manchester City

Everton hero Don Hutchison was furious with the penalty decision that was awarded against Amadou Onana in their loss to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The Blues took the lead through Jack Harrison but fell behind after a Phil Foden equaliser and Julian Alvarez penalty, which was awarded for handball by Belgium international Onana controversially.

But speaking after the game on his personal Twitter account (27 December), TNT Sports pundit Hutchison admitted he was baffled by the decision to give the penalty and insisted it was “never ever a pen”.

“I was on coms tonight on the Everton v Man City game (great game) but I’m sorry I might be in the minority but that’s never ever a pen,” he wrote.

“Onana putting his body with honesty on the line and Ake smashes it off his arm from half a yard away! What you meant to do?”

Crazy

It happened last season at Goodison Park against Manchester City, it happened off the pitch when it came to our ten point deduction for one charge compared to their 115 charges, and it happened again here.

The Premier League are desperate for their golden boys to be successful and if that means hitting the so-called smaller teams where it hurts, then so be it.

Everton

We’ve seen countless incidents this season where this same action didn’t result in a penalty, and some that were even more obvious not given either.

Onana was a yard away from Ake at best and the ball was smashed at him. He hasn’t made himself any bigger, he’s on his way to the ground to block the shot and yet the referee still wasn’t even sent to the screen to take a look.

It’s VAR nonsense again and it’s hard to believe that Everton aren’t now being targeted to try and be sucked back into a relegation battle that we have no business being apart of this season.
