Kevin Campbell shares ‘kind’ Everton admission following defeat to Wolves
Kevin Campbell has made a brutal new Everton admission following the Toffees defeat to Wolves, suggesting that the 3-0 scoreline was “probably kind” to Sean Dyche’s side.
Everton extended their winless run to four matches in all competitions at Molineux on Saturday (30 December) as they were repeatedly torn apart by Gary O’Neil’s side and failed to extend the gap between them and the relegation zone.
The Toffees were massively off the pace and have been widely criticised by both pundits and journalists but Campbell’s assessment of the performance has perhaps been the harshest, suggesting the result flattered Everton.
Speaking on BBC Sport’s Final Score (30 December, 17:03) he said: “I was very impressed with Wolves today. They opened up Everton at full and Everton couldn’t match them today.
“Three goals were probably kind to Everton.”

After an upturn of form following the Toffees point deduction, things seem to have calmed down a bit on Merseyside and Everton’s form has suffered as a result. While the result was poor at Molineux, the performance was perhaps even more disappointing.
Although the home side only had two more shots than Dyche’s side, they registered an xG of 2.06 from their 12 attempts while Everton only managed 0.46 from their 10 shots. The Toffees surrendered so many good chances in a truly poor performance [Fotmob].
Luckily, because of the poor form of the teams below them, Everton still sit above the Premier League dropzone, but if they continue to play and perform in the manner they did against Wolves, they could well be dragged back into the dogfight.
There’s little shame in losing to the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham, but clashes against the likes of Wolves have to be won when you’re battling against relegation. Hopefully, Saturday was a one-off and things will quickly improve against Crystal Palace.
