Andy Dunn blasts Man City after what fans did in win over Everton

Andy Dunn has blasted Manchester City for laughing at the situation surrounding their 115 Premier League charges as they faced Everton at Goodison Park.

While the Toffees have already been punished for their Profit and Sustainability breach with a 10-point deduction, a development surrounding the current Treble-holders remains to be seen since hearing of a “trial date” being set for autumn.

Although both sets of fans made light of bad circumstances and joined in with the chants, Dunn was a lot more critical of the situation and blasted Man City for laughing amid a lack of progress in the legal battle against the Premier League champions.

As Goodison Park was filled with both Everton and Man City fans chanting about cheating, Dunn wrote in Sunday Mirror (31 December, page 63): “But while the Everton faithful saw the amusing side, the continuing delay over the hearings into the 115 Premier League charges facing City is not funny.

“Yes, it is clearly a complex case and City will do all they legally can to prove their innocence. This is a magnificent Manchester City team with a magnificent collection of trophies.

“But before we start lauding them as the greatest of all time, we need to know if they broke the rules or not. We need to know who they are.”

One rule for one, one rule for another

The wait for a final consensus surrounding a rather controversial legal battle is understandable. It is extremely complex, with so much on the line.

However, it felt like a matter of moments between the news of Everton’s charge being released and the 10-point deduction being enforced, scaring Everton faithful with the very real possibility of relegation.

While the Toffees chose a positive outlook on the horrendous news, going on a four-game winning streak against Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Burnley, Sean Dyche’s side are still very much at risk of relegation.

Despite this, Man City’s punishment remains to be seen despite being far more serious than Everton’s one Profit and Sustainability breach. Pep Guardiola and his side can continue to challenge for back-to-back Premier League and Champions League titles without having to look over their shoulders.

The club even boasted their trophies from 2023 on Saturday before their match against Sheffield United, as the team posed with their five trophies: FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.
