Everton line up Andre Gomes exit as Saudi clubs want January transfer
Everton are lining up a January exit for Andre Gomes as Saudi clubs line up for the Portuguese midfielder, according to Football Transfers.
The outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (3 January) that the midfielder who is on mega wages at Goodison Park will be allowed to leave this month having received interest from both Benfica and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
Gomes only has six months remaining on his contract with Sean Dyche’s side and the Toffees are reluctant to match his reported £120,000 a week wage and instead believe that they could be able to recoup a reasonable fee for the Portuguese midfielder.

The 30-year-old has made only three appearances in the Premier League this season having struggled with repeated injury issues but did impress in a goal-scoring cameo against Tottenham Hotspur in December.
Move him on
Everton need to get Gomes’ wage off of their books sooner rather than later as they cannot afford to continue to pay the Portuguese midfielder’s extortionate wages and remain within the Premier League’s financial fair play restrictions.
The midfielder has impressed in his limited Premier League minutes this season, but the Toffees cannot pay a reported £120,000 a week to a player who is only available for a handful of games a season, no matter how good he can be.

Hopefully, with interest from the Saudi Pro League, there will be teams willing to match if not better Gomes’ current terms to tempt him into leaving Merseyside this month. If not the Toffees may be lumbered with his wages for the next six months until his contract expires.
Potentially a return to Portugal with Benfica could be an enticing option for the 30-year-old as well if he is keen to make the switch back to his homeland.
The most important thing for Everton is the fact that there is genuine interest in the midfielder. Hopefully, one of those teams will make a move in the next few weeks and the Toffees can shift another huge wage off of their books.
