Everton should consider move for player they wanted this summer after transfer update emerges amid Arnaut Danjuma uncertainty

Everton have to box clever in the January transfer window, everybody knows that.

The likelihood is that any incomings to Goodison Park this month are going to be loans or cut-price deals as the Toffees attempt to cut their cloth amid ongoing financial difficulties.

Some funds may be freed up if the season-long deal for Arnaut Danjuma is cut short and he returns to Villarreal.

talkSPORT reported on Tuesday (2 January) that the winger is frustrated by his lack of opportunities at Goodison Park and may be ready to call it quits after five months on Merseyside.

The UK radio station added that any decision on the future of Danjuma may depend on Everton being able to find a suitable replacement.

Well, as luck would have it, a tailor-made replacement could be available for Sean Dyche and it is a player they have been linked to in the past.

Prominent Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on 17 August, 2023 that the Toffees were in the hunt to sign Porto Goncalo Borges.

Portuguese outlet A Bola later reported (20 August) that Everton could afford the deal as he was available for £12.8million.

However, a move failed to materialise as Porto were reluctant to sell but a fresh update on Wednesday (3 January) suggests that may no longer be the case.

O Jogo, another Portuguese outlet, reported that Porto are now willing to sanction a move for Borges with a loan seen as most likely and the possibility of a purchase option included.

Borges has only made nine Primeira Liga appearances this term but at just 22 he fits the sort of profile Everton are looking for, namely young players with high potential.

Plus the make-up of the deal, a loan with a purchase option, is exactly the sort of move they have to be thinking about in January if they are to bulk up their squad.

With Danjuma likely headed for the exit door this feels like a move that Everton should at least be looking into it.
