Dom King furious over Everton incident with Dominic Calvert-Lewin ruled out until February – ‘pathetic’

It was a “pathetic” decision to send Dominic Calvert-Lewin off for Everton in the FA Cup game against Crystal Palace on Thursday (4 January), according to Dom King.

The Daily Mail journalist tweeted on Thursday that the 26-year-old forward is getting a three-game ban, which will rule him out until February, for a tackle on Nathaniel Clyne on 79 minutes that “wasn’t excessive force”.

He said the England international’s challenge never “raised an eyebrow” in real-time, adding that we “may as well give up now” as the Toffees played out a 0-0 draw to set up a replay at Goodison Park.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin is getting a three-game ban for a tackle that wasn’t excessive force,” said King. “Never raised an eyebrow in real-time and never had a flicker of complaint from anyone on the opposing side.

“We may as well give up now. Pathetic.”

Lost the plot

It’s pretty clear that the officials have completely lost touch with reality as they continue to ruin games by making ridiculous decisions every single week.

In what world was the challenge by Calvert-Lewin a “clear and obvious” error, something a foul must be for VAR to get involved and suggest for the referee to send a player off?

It could perhaps have been dangerous had the forward caught Clyne at full force on his shin, but that simply didn’t happen as there was just the slightest touch on the Eagles defender before he won the ball.

Everton

The decision has rightly caused uproar amongst the footballing community because this simply can’t be allowed to go on.

The Toffees are likely to appeal the decision, but even if it does get overturned, there are far bigger at hand as the standard of officiating at the highest level continues to decline rapidly.
