Fabrizio Romano details Everton sale decision on Amadou Onana amid ‘super’ update from Goodison Park

Everton would prefer to sell Amadou Onana during the summer rather than in the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported in his Daily Briefing on Sunday (7 January) that there has been interest in the Belgian international for a long time from clubs in England and Spain.

But he added that there is “no substantial update” on the 22-year-old midfielder’s future at Goodison Park despite him being “super appreciated” around Europe.

“Another Everton story I’m seeing a lot is Amadou Onana,” said Romano. “For sure, interest is there since a long time from English and Spanish clubs – Onana is super appreciated around Europe.

“However, there is currently no substantial update on this one. Obviously, Everton would prefer to sell him in the summer rather than during the middle of the season.”

Mixed emotions

There will probably be mixed emotions for Everton fans following this latest update from Romano despite it looking like Onana will remain at the club for the time being.

Although that may be the case, it sounds as though the Toffees are preparing themselves for the midfielder to move on during the summer window.

Even though that would still be disappointing, at least it would mean he’d be sticking around for the rest of this season to help guide them away from danger again following the 10-point deduction.

The Blues will be looking for a hefty transfer fee for the Belgian when the time for him to leave Goodison does come around and there will no doubt be plenty of suitors looking to sign him.

But Sean Dyche’s focus will be on blocking out all the noise and continuing to get the best out of him over the next few months.
