Everton transfer news: Lyon win over Arnaut Danjuma, he wants to quit Goodison Park

Everton forward Arnaut Danjuma is interested in a move to Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, according to FootMercato.

The French news publication reported online (9 January) that the 26-year-old is keen to quit Goodison Park to join Lyon in search of more regular first-team football ahead of the UEFA European Championships this summer.

Danjuma has struggled since joining the Blues on a season-long loan from Spanish side Villareal last summer, (Everton FC, 23 July 2023), starting just three times in the Premier League for Sean Dyche’s side.

Although the Dutchman is keen to leave, the ball is currently in Everton’s court as they must agree to break the winger’s loan before the switch to France can be sanctioned by Villareal.

Hard to argue

It is certainly no surprise that Danjuma is ready to quit Everton in search of pastures anew.

In fact, he is probably sick of the sight of the Premier League after his last two experiences in England’s top flight. Having snubbed the Toffees to join Tottenham last season, Danjuma struggled for minutes in north London, starting just once for the club during his six-month stay.

He hasn’t had much more luck at Everton this season, and based on the way his last two years have gone, he is probably just desperate to play some football, wherever that may be.

Nothing is more important in the build-up to a major international tournament than playing, and Danjuma will be well aware of this with time running out before this summer’s European Championships.

Nonetheless, Everton and Dyche will certainly be in no rush to get rid of a useful squad player, although if the Blues boss has little intention of utilising the forward, than it is probably in everyone’s best interests if Danjuma is moved on, especially for the sake of the wage bill on Merseyside.

In other Everton news, one Premier League club are pushing hard to sign one ace at the club, with a loan-to-buy deal reportedly on the cards.
