Everton ‘very close’ to another P&S breach as £100m Jarrad Branthwaite transfer update emerges

Luke Edwards has claimed Everton are very close to another profit and sustainability breach, which has put clubs on alert as they circle a January transfer move for Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Daily Mail journalist did reassure fans that it is unlikely Everton would sell the defender in January, with a £100million price tag slapped on him, but there is no shortage of interest.

He continued by warning that the perilous financial situation the club find themselves in means they may be forced to sell a key player in the January transfer window.

Edwards was speaking to the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily podcast [9 January] where he shared: “The rumours in football are that Everton are still very, very close to another profit and sustainability breach. They’ve already been docked ten points.

“That unfortunately means that vultures are going to circle now. I can’t imagine they’re going to sell Branthwaite this month, I think we’re talking about an £80-90-100million asking price to sign him.

“He’s going to be in demand, everybody will be scouting him, Everton know they’ve got a real precious jewel on their hands. I just worry from an Everton perspective, they’ve been loaned more money by 777, that takeover is on hold.

“Everton are still in a precarious financial position and unfortunately, I do worry that before the end of this month, Everton are going to have sold someone.”

Tricky times at Goodison Park

The ongoing confusion surrounding the prospective 777 Partners takeover, mixed with profit and sustainability concerns and checks ongoing over another potential breach, have made the transfer window far from smooth for Sean Dyche’s side.

Links with Branthwaite have ramped up in recent weeks with Real Madrid interested, while Amadou Onana has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal or Manchester United, and with the news that one sale may have to be made, either of them could be heading out of the exit door.

Should they lose either of their star players in January, with further investment looking unlikely due to the financial situation at Goodison, Dyche and Everton will have suffered a bitter blow in their fight for survival.

Things seem to be going from bad to work for the club so far this season, and if there is any light at the end of the tunnel it is the faint hope of a takeover deal being agreed upon soon, but yet another financial concern on top of a player exit is not good news.
