Alan Brazil explodes at ‘Bonkers’ Everton revelation live on air amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin red card appeal

Alan Brazil exploded live on talkSPORT after it emerged that Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s red card for Everton remains on his record despite it being rescinded.

The striker was given a straight red card in the FA Cup 3rd round draw with Crystal Palace which was rescinded upon appeal, meaning his three-game ban was wiped and he is available to play.

However according to Brazil on the talkSPORT breakfast show (11 January), the card remains on his record and if he were to be sent off again he would face punishment as if it were his second red card of the season which the host labelled an “absolute nonsense”.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Everton won their appeal of course, we know that, against the three-match ban for the FA Cup sending off at Palace, right,” he said. “But the striker’s card is still marked.

“While the claim of wrongful dismissal was upheld, the red card remains on the 26-year-old’s record under FA regulations. Now what does that mean.

“It means Calvert-Lewin would serve an extra match ban on top of any suspensions should he be dismissed for a second time this season. For me that’s bonkers. Absolute nonsense.”

Gabriel Agbonlahor joined in, claiming it doesn’t make sense.

“It doesn’t make sense because if they’ve rescinded the red card then it’s off your record. Why would it stay on there?”

What?!

This is just a ridiculous rule if it’s true, and the FA have got some serious explaining to do about how this could possibly make sense.

If a player is sent off and serves a ban, then getting an extra ban the next time he is sent off in the same season makes sense as it acts as a deterrent for players.

But if the initial red card is rescinded, that means the FA and authorities have admitted that there was an error from officials and the red card should never have happened to begin with.

It makes no sense for the player to then be punished as if they’re a repeat offender should they be sent off again, and luckily for Everton the chances of Calvert-Lewin getting another card are slim because that was the first red card of his career.

It’s a stupid rule and another example of how ridiculous the autorities of the game in this country are these days. Something needs to change.
