Ben Jacobs shares fresh Arsenal stance on Everton ace Amadou Onana as £50m-plus claim made

It will be “tough” for Arsenal to sign Everton ace Amadou Onana this month, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The 22-year-old midfielder has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season for the Toffees, scoring two goals.

Jacobs believes Everton would expect more than £50million for the Belgium international, who joined the club from Lille on a five-year deal in August 2022.

When asked if Arsenal will sign Onana on an X Q&A, Jacobs replied: “I think it will be tough. Everton would still expect £50m+.

“Remember, they paid £33m. Expectation is Arsenal will have a quiet window and I am told they haven’t advanced anything with Onana to date.”

Staying put?

Everton manager Sean Dyche will be desperate to keep hold of all of his players this month given the huge task that lies ahead.

Having been handed a 10-point deduction, the Toffees are in a Premier League relegation battle, with the club currently sitting 17th in the table.

They are now past the halfway mark, and need to start picking up more points in order to push clear of the bottom three.

Fortunately, the recently promoted Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton Town are all struggling since returning to the top flight.

But that shouldn’t stop Dyche from wanting his players to raise their game, with Onana certainly a key player for the Toffees.

A smart move from the powers that be at Goodison Park would certainly involve convincing the midfield ace to commit his future to the club until the end of the season.

A potential exit could then arise in the summer, which would work out well for all parties involved, with Arsenal perhaps then keen on bolstering their midfield options.

In other Everton news, a European club has won over a Toffees player who now wants to quit Goodison Park.
