Everton transfers: Arnaut Danjuma waiting for Villarreal to break loan before joining Lyon

Arnaut Danjuma is set to join Lyon for the second half of the season as he waits on Everton to break their loan agreement with Villarreal, according to Robin Bairner.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (11 January), the ex-Goal journalist reports that the Holland international is close moving to Ligue 1 alongside former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.

All that is waiting on the move is for Everton and Villarreal to come to an agreement on breaking his loan at Goodison Park, with the Toffees having initially signed him for the whole season.

“Lyon close to signing Nemanja Matic and Arnaut Danjuma,” he wrote.

“Latter is waiting on Everton breaking his loan agreement with Villarreal.”

Oh

Well, that’s not a massive surprise but it’s also a bit of a blow for the Toffees because the team is light on numbers as it is.

Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison have emerged as the first-choice options on the wing for Sean Dyche, and that has made it difficult for Danjuma to get regular game time.

But with McNeil suffering an ankle injury in the FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace, there is potentially a chance there for Danjuma to come into the team and make an impact, which is why they signed him in the first place.

The player clearly just wants to play more regularly and if Villarreal are getting the money for him they want, then they don’t care where that’s going to be.

Everton need to find a solution to this issue because losing Danjuma means the team will now be very short in attack, and with a relegation battle seemingly bubbling under the surface it’s not a decision they can afford to get wrong.
