Everton: ‘Thankful’ Arnaut Danjuma claim made at Goodison Park after what Sean Dyche said

Arnaut Danjuma should be “thankful” that Sean Dyche made light of his social media activity this week, according to journalist Chris Beesley.

The Netherlands international posted an image of himself seemingly on an aeroplane on his personal Instagram page this week.

That came after Danjuma’s agent had declared his client was open to cutting his Everton loan short, with Lyon interested in snapping him up.

However, Dyche made clear at his press conference on Thursday (12 January) that Danjuma will remain at Goodison Park.

Asked specifically about the image Danjuma posted, Dyche joked the player was just flying from Manchester to Liverpool ahead of training.

In response to that, Beesley wrote for the Liverpool Echo [13 January]: “Given that there has been intense speculation in recent days about Danjuma’s time with the Blues being cut short and his representatives agreeing a potential switch to Olympique Lyonnais, it probably wasn’t the most tactful idea for the player to post a picture of himself aboard an aeroplane.

“He should probably be thankful that his gaffer Dyche has got a sense of humour with the Everton manager making light of the situation.

“It’s to be hoped that Everton can still smile about the situation when the current window closes.”

Needs to step up

It looked certain at one point this week that Danjuma would be on his way out of Goodison Park.

The comments made by his agent to talkSPORT were fair enough, as it is clear to see why the Villarreal loanee is not exactly happy with his situation.

At the same time, he is technically contracted to Everton and so if he is only considered a squad player by Dyche, then he must accept that.

The injury sustained by Dwight McNeil last week, which thankfully does not seem serious, may have changed the Toffees’ stance on this one.

Everton

Dyche cannot really afford to let Danjuma depart at this point as Everton are very light of options out on the left-hand side.

The best that can come out of this is that the Dutchman steps up when needed in Sunday’s (14 January) meeting with Aston Villa.

If he does that, he could easily nail down a more regular starting spot in the side. Another underwhelming display, though, and maybe that switch to Lyon would not be such a bad thing.

In other Everton news, a finance expert has raised the Toffees as an example in a £218million PSR claim.
