Hannibal Mejbri move to be green-lighted on Monday as Everton transfer fate set

Manchester United are set to green-light Hannibal Mejbri’s loan move to Sevilla on Monday with Everton set to miss out, according to the Daily Mail.

Writing in their print edition Mail Sport (13 January, page 5), the news outlet report that the Reds are expected to allow the Tunisia international to leave Old Trafford on loan.

Reports in Spain (13 January) suggested that a final decision would be made next week with Man United keen for the midfielder to join Everton instead, but it now seems that the player will get his wish to move to Spain instead.

“Manchester United are in talks to loan left back Alvaro Fernandez, 20, to Benfica and are expected to allow Hannibal Mejbri to join Sevilla on Monday,” they wrote.

Blow

Everton and Sean Dyche have clearly made it a priority this month to strengthen the team’s midfield options, and Hannibal would have been a terrific addition to the squad.

He is technically gifted and also has that bite and steel to his game that the manager loves, while his versatility would mean that he becomes an option in several different positions too.

But the player has already given his word to Sevilla about a move and clearly prefers to go there than come to Goodison Park, which means that Everton should probably have been looking at alternatives already.

For the club to still be at the table all this time suggests that they had some real positive feedback about getting a deal done, and ultimately it hasn’t gone their way.

Now the club must look to other options, with the likes of Frank Onyeka linked with a loan move, to ensure the manager gets what he needs for the second half of the campaign.
