Ex-Liverpool mayor reacts as Everton hit with fresh Premier League charges, ‘Pure Spite’

The decision to find Everton guilty of further financial breaches is “pure spite” from the Premier League, according to Joe Anderson.

The former Mayor of Liverpool tweeted on Monday (15 January) that it shows the “arrogance” and “lack of professionalism” from the league after the Toffees and Nottingham Forest have been referred to an independent commission for alleged breaches of profit and sustainability rules in their accounts for 2022-23.

He added that the moral thing would have been to await the outcome of the Blues’ appeal to their previous charge handed out in November last year before a decision was taken.

Complicated

This is an extremely complicated matter as Everton could be staring down the barrel of another points deduction before they even find out what the result is of their appeal to the previous ruling.

There are many who believe the 10-point deduction was harsh and that the Toffees do stand a decent chance of getting some of those points back.

But the fresh allegations will be hugely concerning to all those associated with the club as a further points deduction could be crippling.

Everton

It could potentially put the proposed takeover by 777 Partners in doubt as the American investment firm may think twice about whether it wants to invest in the club.

If a further deduction was handed out this season, then it would also be extremely difficult for the Blues to fight off relegation as they only just have their heads above water following the previous punishment.
