Stan Collymore reacts to latest Everton PSR charge, notes ‘elephant in the room’ that has gone unaddressed

Stan Collymore has questioned why Manchester City have still yet to be punished after Everton were again charged by the Premier League.

Everton, along with Nottingham Forest, have been referred to an independent commission for allegedly breaching profit and sustainability rules.

The Toffees have already been docked a record 10 points by the Premier League this season for a previous charge, which they are appealing.

City have yet to face any punishment after being referred to an independent commission last February over more than 100 alleged rule breaches.

Writing on his personal Twitter page on Monday (15 January), Collymore said: “No problem with any club being sanctioned for breaches of long known and clear rules.

“The name of the club doesn’t matter. Every club should be treated equally under the rules set out.

“But the elephant in the room isn’t being addressed. 115 charges, zero action. Why?”

Wait goes on

As we keep being told, City’s case if far more complicated than Everton’s – or both of Everton’s, should that be – as it spans more than 100 offences across nine years.

While it is fair enough that more time is required to look into the various alleged breaches, it is laughable that nearly a year has now passed since they were referred to an independent commission.

In the same time, Everton have been charged with breaching the Premier League’s financial rules and punished, and now they have been charged once again and are awaiting their next punishment.

Whether Everton are successful with this latest appeal or not, the case will be closed one way or another by the end of May, a week after the season finishes.

City’s case, for what it is worth, would not have even opened by then. Instead, it looks like being a late-Autumn opening, with a decision not arriving until a year later.

Everton fans understand the cases differ, but potentially hitting the Toffees with a second deduction in a matter of months just smacks of the Premier League wanting the club out of the division.

In other Everton news, a journalist says one Toffees player should be “thankful” following comments made last week.
