Everton want to sign striker Che Adams as Southampton asking price emerges

Southampton have slapped a £6m asking price on striker Che Adams as Everton look to sign a new forward this month, according to talkSPORT.

Writing in their transfer notebook (16 January), the news outlet report that the Scotland international is being watched by Wolves, Crystal Palace and the Toffees ahead of this month’s transfer deadline.

Adams is set to become a free agent in the summer with his current deal due to expire in June, but Southampton are demanding £6m to let him leave now as they push for promotion back to the Premier League.

“Southampton have slapped a £6m asking price on striker Che Adams,” they wrote.

“Adams is on the radar of Wolves, Crystal Palace and Everton as clubs in the bottom half of the Premier League look to bolster their attacking options.”

Back again

Everton have been linked with a transfer for Che Adams for several years, with the Scotland international shining for the Saints even when they got relegated.

A summer move was also expected but never materialised and Adams has done well in the Championship, with four goals in his last five games and eight goals in all competitions this season from limited starts.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling in front of goal currently and Beto never a prolific option, Sean Dyche wants to add more goals to his squad and Adams may have proven to be a shrewd bit of business.

However at £6m it simply isn’t worth it right now for the Toffees, when we already have options in his position and financially are not in a position where we can spend wildly on backup options.

With the player likely to be a free agent in the summer it could be a deal to revisit then when the future of the club’s finances are clearer and hopefully more stable, but for January the club are better off looking elsewhere or sticking with what they already have.
